Miscellaneous Design and Visual Art
Invitation Design
My partner is a chef, and we often host niche, food-themed parties at our home, inviting our friends to join us for celebrations of tacky hors d'oeuvres, the wonders of Jell-o, and once—following an ill-advised impulse buy of 50 pounds of stone fruit—an evening of all things peach. I delight in designing the invitations for these parties, and have almost as fun making the anticipatory collages as I do chowing down on the delicious spreads that invariably result.
Textile Arts
I come from a long line of artists, and from an early age was encouraged to experiment with whatever mediums brought me creative and tactile joy. In adulthood, I have settled into an embroidery hobby, and have dabbled in papier-mâché and mixed media collage. I share many of my creations on my social media accounts, and like my other work, my craft projects tend toward vibrancy and a childlike visual saturation, fitting well into the signature aesthetic that I have established on social media. Most of my works are gifts for friends and family, and I take great joy in infusing love, warmth, and personalization into every gift that I create.
Nick's Book
My partner and I recently celebrated our sixth anniversary, and in honor of the occasion I made and gifted him a handmade book documenting the story of how we met. I was working at the preschool at the time of this anniversary, and was inspired by the light-hearted, long-form poetry of the picture books in the school library. I sewed a book out of cardboard and decorative paper, and plundered my collection of New Yorker magazines for images I could use to collage illustrations to accompany the narrative poem of our origins. This project was deeply personal, and so I have blurred most of the text, and selected excerpts to give a glimpse of the project’s style and form.
